Steps to E-File Truck Tax Form 2290
File Form 2290 Amendment with File Truck Tax
If your vehicle details change during the tax year, you need to report those changes to the IRS by filing an amendment. Form 2290 amendments must be filed if your taxable gross weight increases, suspended vehicles exceed the mileage use limit, or you have made an error in your VIN.
If your vehicle’s gross weight increases during the tax year and it falls into a new weight category, you must file an amendment and pay the additional tax for increased taxable gross weight. Also, if your vehicle was reported as low mileage suspended but the mileage limit (5,000 miles or 7,500 for agricultural vehicles) was exceeded, you must file an amendment. VIN Correction amendments must be filed if you made a VIN typo on your Form 2290.
